Huntington Solidifies Hold on First Place

Emily Plachta put up a "Triple Double" to help lead Huntington past Bellport.

The Huntington girls’ basketball team solidified its hold on first place in the league standings with a 71-26 victory at Bellport. The win improved the Blue Devils’ record in league play to 13-1 and gives them an overall mark of 16-1.

Huntington jumped out to a 41-11 halftime lead and was never seriously threatened the rest of the way. Emily Plachta notched a triple double with 32 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals to pace the Blue Devils. The teenager is in the midst of her best year ever and she has her team among the best in the county.

Junior Gianna Forte turned in her best game of the winter, tallying 11 points, eight assists and six steals. Shaneek Shands scored seven points, which included a three-pointer. Junie Nosile added six points.

Huntington’s offense ran on all cylinders. Regan Sansiviero came off the bench to score five points, including a long three pointer. Kayleigh Bender scored four points and Katie Browne, Teddi Carnesi and Jolie Weinschreider scored two points each.

The Blue Devils have three regular season games remaining on their schedule. Huntington plays Centereach (10-7) tonight at Harbofields High School. It’s Senior Day for the Blue Devils. Ceremonies will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the tipoff expected at 5:45 p.m.

Huntington travels to Islip (14-4) on Monday for a non-league game set for 5 p.m. The Blue Devils play their final regular season game on Wednesday (February 9) at Copiague (4-12) at 5 p.m.

The Suffolk Class AA playoffs will begin on Monday, February 14 at 5 p.m. Quarterfinal round games will be played on Thursday, February 17 at 5 p.m.
