Washington Primary School’s annual Bingo Friday Family Fun Night turned out to be all that it was billed as; an evening of pure enjoyment for folks of all ages despite being held virtually as a result of COVID-19.
The Washington school community is like everyone else. It can’t wait for the two year old pandemic to end and for “normal” life to return. Until then, Washington students, teachers and parents are making the best of the situation and striving to get a sense of satisfaction out of each day. Events are more important than ever and whether they are held virtually or in person, everyone just wants to have a good time.
Those who were previously unfamiliar with bingo, quickly learned that it’s a game of chance. The host of the game calls out numbers drawn at random. Players match the numbers called with the numbers pre-printed on their cards. Whoever marks off five numbers in a row or in a different pattern if that’s what the game rules call for, wins. When someone reaches their fifth number, they shout “bingo” and turn in their card for verification.
“This year’s event was virtual and we still brought out the fun,” said Principal Dr. Michelle Richards, who called out the numbers. Parent Suzanne Yoda was the evening’s master of ceremonies.
“Students and their families had a blast as they raced to get bingo,” Dr. Richards said. “Bingo cards were sent via e-mail to families by PTA President Holly Zarcone. Students were creative as they used different items from around the house as their bingo pieces.”
Before the night ended, Maxwell Brown, Riley Anderson, Valentina Lee, Luca Yanes and Kellen Anderson had all been crowned as game winners.
