The Huntington wrestling team will vie in the Suffolk League III championships on Saturday at Half Hollow Hills East High School. The first whistles will sound at 9:30 a.m.
The Blue Devils are led by seniors Robbie Smith, Kaleef Riley and Lucas Cirlincione. Smith is ranked No. 1 in Suffolk at 215 lbs. Riley is ranked No. 5 at 285 lbs. and Cirlincione is ranked No. 5 at 110 lbs.
Huntington is coached by Travis Smith, Michael Marinello and Jamie St. John. The team finished the dual meet season with a 14-4 mark. A seeding meeting for the league tournament is scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Weigh-ins are set for Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Preliminary and quarterfinal rounds be wrestled beginning at 9:30 a.m. and continuing to the semi-final round at 1:30 p.m. The consolations will be wrestled on two mats starting at approximately 3 p.m. The finals are slated to begin at 4 p.m.
In the case of inclement weather, the tournament will be held on Sunday, February 6 with all of the same times prevailing.
The Blue Devils wrapped up the dual meet season on Tuesday. Huntington defeated Harborfields, 61-9, winning 11-of-13 bouts with seven first period pins.
Smith (34-1), Riley (29-3) and Cirlincione (21-3) will lead the Blue Devils into Saturday’s competition. Huntington’s starting unit also includes Walter Kusterbeck (15-10), Jonathan Granito (18-7), Enzo Pupillo (19-5), Sam Nicotra (21-3), Dante Salgado (14-10), Max Casiano (22-6), Christian St. John (18-9), John Acompora-Miller (8-6), Zachary Zboray (28-4) and Lucas Petrizzi (25-10).
Huntington will vie against Connetquot, Smithtown East, Copiague, Half Hollow Hills East, Centereach and Newfield.
