Flower Hill School's Star Student Award recipients for January have been honored

February 3, 2022

Flower Hill Primary School students are a wonderful bunch of young people. The nearly 300 youngsters that are spread from kindergarten through third grade do their best to please everyone while working hard on all of their assignments. Selecting a small group for awards is not an easy task.

Flower Hill opened in September 1954 on the same date as its sister schools, Southdown and Washington. The buildings were erected in responses to the Baby Boom following World War II. All three schools were immediately filled to capacity. Flower Hill and others haven’t missed a beat since then; an enviable record that is now nearing 70 years.

Flower Hill Principal Lucia Laguarda along with faculty and staff members select students each month to receive special honors. Star Students of the Month Award recipients are understandably proud. They smile when their names are announced and they are only too happy to accept the congratulations of everyone around the building.

The award recipients are cited for their work in the classroom with their teachers and teacher aides as well as their classmates. They are recognized for the kindness and consideration they display all around the building, including at special area subjects such as art, music, physical education and library/technology.

January’s award winners include:

Kindergarten: Owen Walsh, Violet Mills, Fernanda Ulloa Redondo, Alia Interiano Villalta and Fasahat Shah; First grade: Kevin Diaz Santos, Robert Tortora, Elizabeth Liz Inoa & Yaretzi Alvarez-Moreira; Second grade: Angelli Velasquez Lopez, Madeline Leiter, Nora Erardy and William Guandique Saravia; Third grade: Raquiese Blizzard, Kenneth Guardado, Liv Lapera, Annalisa Hernandez and Madison Martin

“We are thrilled to be able to recognize this great group of boys and girls and very happy to report that all of our students are working hard this year,” Ms. Laguarda said.
