The Woodhull News Makes for Interesting Reading

The January 31 edition of The Woodhull News has been published and is available on Huntington UFSD's website

February 2, 2022

Woodhull Intermediate School has its very own “newspaper” and at 40 pages, it’s crammed with interesting stories. There are quotes around the word newspaper because the publication isn’t a broadsheet, but the contents are quite similar in format and style to what one would find in a newspaper.

The entire enterprise gave participating students so many worthwhile lessons from organizing their thoughts and written words to thinking outside the box and expanding their creativity in ways they previously probably never gave much attention to.

Teachers Dr. Vincenza Caruso and Paula Gasparino are serving as the newspaper club’s faculty advisors. They work closely with a large team of students who are participating in the organization and who are responsible for the well-received edition.

“The students have been working on the fall edition since the beginning of October,” Dr. Caruso said. “We met bi-monthly in person. It’s a great combination of grades four, five and six.”

Woodhull Principal Scott Oshrin is more than pleased with the fall edition. He is proud of the volume and was excited to share it around Huntington UFSD.

Students displayed perseverance and commitment while producing a high quality issue. “We were incredibly impressed with their motivation, initiative and willingness to work across grade levels,” Mrs. Gasparino said.

The paper’s motto is” “By Students. For Students.” The new edition includes stories about school events, interviews with Mr. Oshrin, Superintendent James W. Polansky and faculty and staff members, recipes, tons of photos, jokes, a “Have You Ever . . . ? column, crossword puzzles, short stories and many other odds and ends.

More than two dozen students helped create the publication, which is posted in full on the district website at www.hufsd.edu.
