Components of Huntington High School’s Blue Devil marching band will hold indoor winter prep sessions beginning this week.
The band’s color guard unit met for a rehearsal and interest meeting last night at Jefferson Primary School from 6:30-8:30 p.m. It’s not too late to come into the color guard fold. The unit consists of a great group of high school students who all possess an artistic flair and love of performing. No prior dance or performing experience is necessary. The first rehearsal for percussion ensemble members will be held on Thursday (February 3) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Musicians are asked to bring their sticks, a pencil “and a positive attitude.” Those interested, but unable to make it to the session should send a message to either Frank Battista (fbattista@hufsd.edu) or Chris Scarnato (cscarnato@hufsd.edu), district music teachers who are also members of the band’s staff.
The Blue Devil marching band is one of New York State’s best. It was organized in 1934 when the high school was located on Main Street in what is now Town Hall. It originally rehearsed in the small auditorium and gym in that building and in Heckscher Park, which was utilized by the high school for physical education classes, athletic teams and even commencement ceremonies.
Huntington’s band has performed from coast to coast in parades, at professional sporting events and in competitions. The band continues to rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic.
