Katie Browne, Tallulah Pitti and Gretel Cassell are all preparing to leave for college after standout careers with the Huntington High School girls’ lacrosse team.
The three teenagers have been playing together for many years and have helped make the Blue Devil program competitive. All of them played hard and gave their teammates and coaches every last ounce of effort. The three would typically walk off the field at the end of a game drenched in sweat.
Coaches Shea Scully and Katie Reilly were on hand at the 54th annual Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony to present the trio with special awards to cap off their careers.
Browne was named Most Valuable Offensive Player with Cassell garnering the award for Most Valuable Midfield Player. Pitti captured the Most Valuable Defensive Player Award.
An Advanced Placement Scholar, Browne has been recruited to play on Bucknell University’s NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse team. She said her time management skills are the key to her academic success. A member of four academic honor societies, the teenager was active with the high school’s student government, Natural Helpers program and National History Day contest. She engaged in volunteer activities and also played on the varsity soccer and basketball teams. She plans to study markets, innovation and design at Bucknell.
Cassell is also an academic “high flyer.” She credits also credits her time management skills and well as her organizational abilities as the keys to her success. She has loved wearing a Blue Devil uniform and everything that goes with playing alongside teammates striving for the same goals. The teenager has been recruited to play on Binghamton University’s NCAA Division women’s lacrosse team. She plans to pursue a college degree in political science.
Pitti is headed to the University of Virginia where she plans to study data science. She is famous for staying on top of her work in an organized and time efficient manner. The teenager completely enjoyed participating in school events, from Saturday football games to the homecoming week bonfire at the high school. Vice-president of Huntington’s Interact Club chapter, she is an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction.
“Katie, Gretel and Tallulah has meant so much for our program for so many years,” Scully said. “They are wonderful players and people and we wish them many happy days ahead at college. We appreciate everything they have done to make us a winning team.”
