With a great four year run through Huntington High School now in the history books, Lucas Petrizzi is looking forward with excitement to the next chapter in his life as he gets ready to start classes at the University at Albany.
A member of Huntington’s Class of 2022, Mr. Petrizzi will be difficult to replace on the varsity football, wrestling and lacrosse teams. Known as a “throwback” type athlete, the teenager would have fit in just as well with the legendary Blue Devil teams of yesteryear. His qualities are timeless.
Mr. Petrizzi doesn’t call any attention to himself. He typically flies considerably under the radar. But while most of the crowd doesn’t notice his contributions, his teammates and coaches are both well aware of everything he’s getting done. The teenager’s leadership skills are also top notch and they played a role in all three sports programs in which he starred.
The new Huntington alum rightly believes that hard work has been the key to his success. Coaches have long pointed to his work ethic and said he’s a wonderful role model for his teammates.
Mr. Petrizzi said the varsity football and wrestling in particular taught him that success doesn’t come easy and that hard work is the best way to achieve it.
The teenager is all about relationships. He likes people. He enjoys his friendships and daily interactions with those who cross his path. His outgoing personality draws people to him. He displays a wry sense of humor. No challenge is too great for him. He likes being in the trenches where the hard work gets done.
Blue Devil varsity head coaches Steven Muller, Travis Smith and Julian Watts all enjoyed the opportunity to work with Mr. Petrizzi and all of them as well as their assistants will miss the teenager this year. His shoes won’t be easy to fill.
A Section XI Gold Key Award recipient and New York State Scholar Athlete honoree, Mr. Petrizzi plans to pursue a degree in finance at Albany.
