Anthony Amitrano is a technological whiz. A mainstay of the Huntington High School robotics program, the Class of 2022 member will soon head off to study at SUNY College at Oswego where he plans to prepare for a career as a secondary grade level technology teacher.
Mr. Amitrano served as the chief technology officer of the high school robotics team. He loved helping to solve all the difficult technological challenges associated with building a robot and programming it to perform as designed.
The teenager interned with technology teacher and robotics club advisor Brian Reynolds. Mr. Amitrano can really do anything. He even designed and built shelving units that held the awards presented at the 54th annual Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony.
Mr. Amitrano is this year’s recipient of the Saginaw Family Scholarship presented by Huntington Robotics, Inc. The $1,000 stipend was formally presented at the senior scholarships and awards ceremony in the high school auditorium.
The Saginaw family has enjoyed a long association with Huntington High School and the robotics program. Alums Joseph and Lindsay Saginaw were both stars in the program during their high school years and their parents were integral members of the program’s parent association.
As a member of Huntington’s robotics team, Mr. Amitrano has participated in many community outreach events such as the Huntington holiday spectacular, Friends of the Huntington Station Latin Quarter toy drive and teaching robotics classes at the Tri-CYA.
The teenager has been on honor roll and high honor roll throughout high school. Mr. Amitrano holds technology teachers Brian Reynolds and Omar Santiago in high regard as they both mentored him and were the inspiration behind his college goals.
Captain of the first Blue Devil varsity bowling team in three decades, Mr. Amitrano will be sorely missed around Huntington High School during the 2022/23 school year. But his high school teachers are thrilled that he will be joining their profession soon.
