The Huntington High School boys’ soccer team is ready for a challenge this fall after reaching the Suffolk championship game last year for the first time in 57 seasons. The Blue Devils will take the field for the first day of practice on Monday, August 22 at 7:30 a.m. at the Manor Park turf field at East 5th Street in Huntington Station.

The Huntington varsity will led by head coach John Pagano and assistant coach Jason Suarez. The JV is coached by Jose Alfaro. The Blue Devils are expected to field a very competitive team.

Varsity play will open with four non-league games. Patchogue-Medford visits Blue Devil Stadium on Monday, August 29 at 5 p.m. Huntington travels to Rocky Point on Wednesday, August 31 at 6:45 p.m. Riverhead comes calling on Friday, September 2 at 4 p.m. and William Floyd visits on Tuesday, September 6 at 4:30 p.m.

A dozen league games follow against Bay Shore, Walt Whitman, Lindenhurst, Commack, Copiague, Northport, Half Hollow Hills East, West Islip, North Babylon, Brentwood, Smithtown West and Central Islip.

Huntington graduated nine players off last fall’s sensational team. Varsity returnees and promising players on last year’s JV will be asked to fill in the void created by the departing athletes.

Three graduating Blue Devil players were honored at the 54th annual Blue Devil senior athletic awards ceremony. Pagano presented the senior MVP Award to Daniel Alzate, who plans to try and break into the professional ranks. The Most Improved Player Award went to Julio Martinez, who is heading to the University at Albany. Jose Flores garnered the Coaches Award.

Varsity veterans set to return this fall include Roman Borovica, Jerson Contreras-Moreira, Vincent Grassi, Dylan Hayden, Ian Husselbeck, Kieran Husselbeck, Bryan Lizama, Edwin Marroquin Chavez, Enzo Pupillo, Dante Salgado, Kevin Velez Rua and Justin Villatoro.
