Woodhull Intermediate School is a happening place. As the school year races toward its conclusion in less than two months, excitement is building for a series of fun events for students on every grade level.

Woodhull is a great place with spectacular young people. The school has a long list of distinguished alumni and the youngsters studying in the building this year will assume their rightful place alongside their predecessors in time.

“The end of the school year is shaping up to be an exciting time at Woodhull Intermediate School,” first year Principal Scott Oshrin said. “I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the PTA leadership, parent volunteers, and teacher leaders who are giving so much of their time and resources to provide outstanding opportunities for our students.”

Expected highlights of the final weeks include:

Grade 4:
• Walking field trip to the Kissam House with a police escort and assistance from District Director of Safety and Security Jarrett Stein.
• Visit by children’s book author David Kelly

Grade 5:
• Field trip to the Vanderbilt Planetarium in Centerport.
• Field trip to Elwood Park to celebrate the end of a “fantastic year,” in the words of Mr. Oshrin.  “Games, fun and food will be enjoyed by all.”
• Visit by the Harlem Hoopsters.

Grade 6:
• Field trip to Caumsett State Park.
• Walking field trip to Cinema Arts Centre followed by a class party
• Grade 6 end of year dance.
• Visit by motivational speaker Rohan Murphy.
• Moving up exercises.

All Woodhull students will also be able to enjoy the school’s annual talent show, field day and Pasta Night, which will feature sixth grader serving the guests.

Revamped courtyards

Woodhull’s courtyards are being revamped, thanks to school parent and Huntington High School alum David Bergmann, who is making a donation valued at $5,000 that includes new plantings, pavers, rubber mulch, irrigation and other enhancements for the two outdoor areas.

“A big thank you to David Bergmann for donating his time, money and landscaping crew,” Mr. Oshrin said. “Both areas will be used by students and teachers for new and exciting learning opportunities. Thank you to the Woodhull Shared Decision-Making Committee for spearheading the initiative. The courtyards are being transformed into places where our students want to spend their time.”

Huntington School Board members are expected to accept the donation at their next business meeting.
