The J. Taylor Finley Middle School boys’ lacrosse team is determined to prove it’s one of the best in western Suffolk this spring.
The squad is coached by Travis Smith and Jonathan Oliveri. The team features 29 seventh and eighth graders. Finley practices and plays its game on the lower athletic field at Woodhull Intermediate School.
Finley will play a schedule of five home and five away games. Games are scheduled at Woodhull against Commack, East Northport, Bay Shore, Northport and Oldfield. Away games are set for Commack, Candlewood, Elwood, Northport and West Hollow.
Finley’s roster includes seventh graders Blake Bender, Justin Cahn, Jude Creegan, Colby Curran, Ronan Driscoll, Finnian Driscoll, Gannon Johnson, Jack Larson, Luke Lomler, Brendan McNulty, Jeremiah Miller and Ryan Waters; and eighth graders Frank Algieri, Warren Daniel, Ryan DiVico, Sean Egan, Jeremy Gross, Jacob Guzik, Jack Kamenstein, Walter Kusterbeck, Christian Luca, Braid Martin, Thomas Nicotra, Chase Northrop, William Peters, Jose Rodriquez Alvarez, Nathan Root, Ronan Sosnowski and Henry Stein.
“The team is coming along nicely, with skills improving daily,” Smith said. “A range of experience is represented on the roster from relative novices to those who have been playing for many years. We have a tough schedule, but I am optimistic that we will be successful.
