Huntington head coach Ron Wilson has more than 60 athletes on the roster, but many are underclassmen with limited varsity experience outdoors. As they mature, the Blue Devils are becoming increasingly hard to beat in both running and field events.

East Meadow Invitational highlights include:

• In the frosh/soph division of the 100m dash, sophomores Andy Suazo, Cristian Delgado and David Dje Bi all reached the finals. Suazo ran the fastest time of the day (11.41 seconds) in both divisions and captured a gold medal. Delgado and Dje Bi both earned bronze medals for fifth and sixth place, respectively, with times of 11.96 and 12.20.
• In the open 100m dash, senior Nick Grover ran the fastest time (11.64 seconds) in the trials. He would later run 11.62 in the finals to take the gold medal.
• The Huntington trio of senior Julio Martinez (51.43 secons), sophomore Jahmar Francis (52.83) and junior Kender Edouazin (53.86) swept the top three places in the 400m dash.
• In the 800m run, junior Matt Armstrong earned gold in a time of 2:09.
• Sophomores John Genova and Carmine Carusone earned medals in the frosh/soph division of shot put with Carusone capturing third place (35-01.25 feet) and Genova finishing sixth (33-07.25).
• In the open high jump, senior Clayton Ward leaped 5-08-feet for second place and Johan Fajardo placed third with the same mark as Ward, who had less misses, which gave him the silver medal. (The event champion also jumped 5-08, but he had even less misses than Ward.)
• Quincy Chery won the 400m intermediate hurdles in 59.84 while Ward took fourth place in 1:06.93.
• Chery picked up silver medal in the 110m high hurdles with a second place finish in 15.89 seconds.
• Chery’s third medal came when he teamed up with Grover, Francis, and Martinez in the Swedish medley relay, which features the first runner covering 100m (Grover), the second leg 200m (Francis), the third leg 300m (Chery) and the anchor leg 400m (Martinez).  The Blue Devils eclipsed the meet record by a half second, finishing first in 2:04.20. (The previous meet record was 2:04.7.)
• In the open division of the sprint medley relay,  junior Nick Sietz (800m), Edouazin (400m), senior Tylill Evans (200m) and Dje Bi (200m) completed the race in 4:01 for second place.
• The frosh/soph sprint medley relay team consisting of sophomores Ethan Goleski (800m), Fajardo (400m), Gabe Abreu (200m) and Delgado (200m) finished in fifth in a time of 4:17.

“It was a splendid day of performances on a cold and windy day,” Wilson said.
