An exciting April is in the midst of playing out at Jefferson Primary School. All students are celebrating Poetry & Autism Awareness Month in their classrooms.
Jefferson’s main lobby features a school-wide “poet tree,” where student-created poems are displayed. “In addition, all classrooms have individual poet trees where students will display their original poems,” Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide said.
Jefferson will open our doors to families for a “Family Friday” event to celebrate “Poem in Your Pocket Day” on Friday April 29.
“I am very pleased to share the Principal’s Book of the Month, ‘A Friend for Henry’ by Jenn Baily and illustrated by Mika Song, in honor of Autism Awareness month,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said. In addition, we displayed a second tree in the lobby where all students’ hands make up the leaves on the tree. All Jefferson students will complete a response to literature highlighting their unique attributes that make them special. Their written responses will be shared on their tree leaves.”
Looking ahead, the Jefferson PTA will meet on Tuesday, May 24 and Wednesday, June 8 at 10 a.m. on both days. Jefferson’s field day is set for Friday, June 3. (The rain date is Monday, June 6.) Jefferson’s third grade moving up exercises are scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday, June 21.
