Robbie Smith scored four goals and assisted on two others as the Huntington boys’ lacrosse team overwhelmed host Commack, 16-7. The victory is the Blue Devils’ fourth consecutive league win without a loss.
Huntington took a 4-1 first period lead and was ahead at halftime, 6-4. The Blue Devils went on to outscore their hosts in the second half, 10-3.
Aidan McNulty tallied three goals and five assists for Huntington. Chris Maichin had a pair of goals and three assists. Liam Lennon scored three goals and Michael Kline had two goals. Anthony Annunziata added a goal and three assists. Aidan Carrello also scored in the game. Blue Devil goalie Sammy Mac Arner stopped four shots.
Huntington’s only loss this spring came in a non-league game against Cold Spring Harbor. Saturday’s loss dropped Commack to 4-2 overall.
While the Blue Devil offense gets most of the glory, Huntington’s defense has been solid through the first five games.
“Our defensive unit is led by seniors Ryan Porzio, Harrison Krywak and Jahiem Hawkins,” had coach Julian Watts said. “Each player understands our defensive approach, which helps them lead on the field. Their mission is to earn shutouts or hold opponents to less than six goals. This requires clear communication and the ability to help teammates who are struggling. They all have a high lacrosse IQ and can adjust throughout the game. They also possess a unique ability to recognize the flow of play and execute the schemes based on matchups.”
The Blue Devils play at Ward Melville on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
