The Finley Middle School tennis consists of 15 energetic players.

The J. Taylor Finley Middle School boys’ tennis team is all set for what is expected to be an exciting season.

The 15 player team is coached by Southdown School physical education teacher John Romano. The squad practices on the three-court complex located on school grounds. A 10 meet schedule featuring five home and five away matches is set.

The roster includes seventh graders Lucas Biancardo, Nickolay Caldwell, Jake Chiclacos, Dalton Flynn, Jackson Poli, Quinn Rinaldi, Michael Tucker and Patrick Tortora and eighth graders Ryan Donovan, Kevin Dominguez, Braedan Kline, Marin Mullaly, Andrew Ochoa, Caleb Palermo and Evan Persampire.

Romano has been a Huntington physical education teacher since September 2018. He earned an undergraduate degree in sports management at Dowling College in 2007 and obtained a graduate degree in physical education at Adelphi University in 2011.

Prior to coming to Huntington, Romano taught physical education at PS/MS 206 in New York City and at the Boys and Girls Club in Hempstead and was a leave replacement teacher, internal school suspension supervisor and permanent in Kings Park. He has coached boys’ and girls’ basketball, tennis, softball and baseball interscholastically.

Finley opens the season at Commack on April 26. The final meet is set for May 31 at home against Elwood. In between those dates there will be home matches against East Northport, Hauppauge, Northport and Great Hollow/Accompsett and away meets at Bay Shore, Nesaquake/Great Hollow, Stimson and Oldfield.
