J. Taylor Finley Middle School and Huntington High School students currently enrolled in grades 7-12 are invited to participate in an intramural boys’ and girls’ fencing program this spring.

These free school sponsored sessions will include general conditioning and training along with an opportunity to learn more about the sport of fencing. If you are thinking about trying out for the Blue Devil team next winter season, this intramural program is for you.

Novices are welcome to participate in the program. No experience is necessary. Those interested in trying out the sport can do so on any Monday evening. Equipment will be provided.

The program will run on Monday evenings from 5-7 p.m. in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School gymnasium from April 25 through June 6. Note, there will be no program on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.

Attendance at all sessions is not required. Bring a water bottle and come dressed to physically condition and fence. Sweatpants are fine, but no shorts, please.

For more information (or any questions), please e-mail Coach Michelle O’Brien at mich_obrien@optimum.net or Coach Vin O’Garra at vco17@live.com.

The Blue Devil boys’ and girls’ fencing teams are coming off their best season in many years. The program wants to keep the good times rolling and make further advances next winter and beyond. Introducing the sport to newcomers in a relaxed atmosphere is one of the goals of the free intramural program.
