Kevin Drake delivered many great performances for the Huntington High School varsity boys’ basketball team this past winter. The senior played a key role in the team’s resurgence, helping the Blue Devils win 12 games, including a playoff contest against Newfield.
Drake played in all 22 games, connecting on 40.8 percent of his shots from two-point range; 30.5 percent from beyond the three point arc and 71.9 percent from the free throw line.

The teenager scored in double figures six times, including last two regular season games and two playoff games. Drake dropped a season high 22 points against West Islip, including six three-point baskets. He had a season high eight rebounds in a playoff win against Newfield and twice dished out four assists in a game.
Drake also plays on the Blue Devil golf and played on last year’s county championship baseball team. He intends to assist with girls’ golf intramurals this spring. Huntington is looking to launch its first ever varsity girls’ golf team in 2023.
The teenager plans to attend Binghamton University. He is interested in studying economics or possibly finance.
The senior will always remember his final basketball season in a Blue Devil uniform. He scored 18 points against Smithtown East, 22 points against West Islip, 13 points against Bellport, 18 points against Copiague, 20 points against Newfield and 12 points against Brentwood.
In 22 games, Drake scored 172 points, pulled down 62 rebounds, had 31 assists and 22 steals and blocked eight shots. He was 31-for-76 from two-point range; 29-for-95 from three-point range and 23-for-32 from the free throw line.
First year head coach Kenneth Parham found him to be an essential player. He fit in perfectly with his teammates and was a good leader, too. “Kevin Drake delivered for us,” Parham said.
