Jefferson Primary School students have a spring in their step as they settle into their classes and activities for the new school year.
“The faculty, staff and I were delighted to welcome our new and returning students to Jefferson Primary School for the 2021/22 school year,” Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide said “The students are quickly learning school and class routines.”
Every morning the students recite the Jefferson School Pledge, stating their desire to do their best that day.
“I kicked off the school year sharing the Principal’s Book of the Month, ‘Say Hello!’ by Rachel Isadora,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said. “The book is a sweet story about Carmelita who walks with her mother and dog throughout her neighborhood to visit her Abuela Rosa. As she walks through her neighborhood, her neighbors say hello in their native languages. Her neighbors say hello in Arabic, French, Spanish, Italian, Spanish, Swahili, Japanese, Mandarin and Hebrew.”
Last week, the Jefferson PTA hosted a very well attended block party for the school’s students and parents. “A good time was had by all,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said. Even Superintendent James W. Polansky stopped by along with several members of the Huntington Board of Education.
Jefferson hosted a virtual meet the teacher night this week that also was well attended. “We are also busy planning for our first parent engagement night on October 14,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said. “We are currently surveying parents to see which topics they are most interested in learning about.”
The school’s teachers, staff and students are all working hard. “It is going to be amazing school year,” Ms. Capitulo-Saide said.
