A new school year always brings with it excitement and that’s certainly the case at Washington Primary School, located on Whitson Road in Huntington Station.
An assortment of new faculty and staff members will be calling Washington School their home after the group filled openings created by retirements and transfers to other Huntington UFSD buildings. The newcomers will be joining veterans of Washington, giving the school a nice mix of teachers and aides.
Principal Michelle Richards has been making final preparations for the past two weeks so everything is “just right” when the buses roll up on Thursday morning. Teachers are expected to waste little time getting down to business with their first lessons coming shortly after students take their seats.
Parents and students could be found throughout the building last Thursday afternoon. “It was a beautiful and busy day at Washington Primary School,” Dr. Richards said. “Students and parents filled the sidewalk on Visitation Day. Faculty and staff beamed with delight as the students were ushered into the building. The hallways were filled with laughter and smiles as students met their teachers for the 2021/22 school year.”
Dr. Richards stressed that efforts were made to help keep everyone in the crowd safe. “To ensure social distancing guidelines, five students and five parents at a time were escorted to classrooms,” she said. “Students were able to organize their desks as they prepare for the first day of school. We are looking forward to wonderful year at Washington!”
