Kate Balm is gliding effortlessly into her junior year at Huntington High School. She is a smart, confident and abundantly talented young woman who has quietly been compiling a most impressive record.
“I spent most of this summer working as a lifeguard, preparing for my tennis season and hanging out with friends,” Ms. Balm said. Not much to argue about there. The teenager has a strong work ethic and she earns very good grades. On the tennis court she plays to win. Swimmers can take comfort they are in very good hands when the junior takes a seat in the lifeguard stand.
“This year I plan on playing on the varsity tennis team, continuing as administrative assistant in Key Club and participating in Habitat for Humanity, chamber orchestra and a cappella choir,” Ms. Balm said.
The teenager has already been inducted into the English Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society and Spanish Honor and Ms. Balm plans on participating in the activities of each of the organizations. “I also hope to join more clubs and honor societies this coming year,” she said.
Ms. Balm is set to take a wide variety of courses across an assortment of academic disciplines. “I am looking forward to the classes I am taking this year and getting to know all of my teachers,” she said.
The incoming junior’s college and career interests are still taking shape. “I am putting a lot of thought into what career I might be interested in as well as looking forward to visiting a number of college campuses in the upcoming year to see what my options are,” Ms. Balm said. “I have yet to decide what major I might want to pursue.”
