Section XI has released the Huntington High School varsity girls’ lacrosse team’s schedule of league games for next spring. The Blue Devils are set to open the season at home on March 30 against William Floyd. The final regular season contest is slated for May 12 at Connetquot.
Huntington will play seven home games against William Floyd, Sachem North (April 8), Sachem East (April 11), Riverhead (April 23), Bay Shore (April 30), Smithtown East (May 3) and Lindenhurst (May 6).
The Blue Devils will take to the road for contests against Half Hollow Hills (April 2), Commack (April 5), Patchogue-Medford (April 13), Middle Country (April 20), Northport (April 26), Ward Melville (May 9) and Connetquot (May 12).
Huntington School Board members have appointed seven coaches to work with the varsity, junior varsity and J. Taylor Finley Middle School girls’ lacrosse teams next spring.
Shea Scully has been named varsity head coach with Katie Reilly and Chris Taylor appointed as assistant varsity coaches. Chiara Maimone is the JV head coach with Lauren Blackburn tapped as the JV assistant. Hildi Stanford is the Finley head coach with Gregory Dieterich serving as the Finley assistant coach. Five of the seven coaches are also members of Huntington UFSD’s faculty corps.
Scully, Reilly and Stanford all played for the Blue Devils and are Huntington High School graduates.
Scully is a Huntington High School physical education teacher. She played lacrosse at NCAA Division I University of Bridgeport where she obtained her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She was the Blue Devil JV girls’ lacrosse head coach for many years.
Reilly is finishing a Master of Social Work degree at Stony Brook University. A three sport All-County athlete while at Huntington High School, she went on to captain the Princeton University NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse team. She graduated Princeton in May 2020 with a degree in politics. She has coached on the club level.
Stanford is a J. Taylor Finley Middle School special education teacher. She played lacrosse at Clemson University for three years before transferring to LIU-CW Post and graduating with a BS degree in elementary education in 1999. She later earned two master’s degrees at CW Post. She has coached in the Harborfields girls’ PAL program for six years and served as a program director since 2020. She’s an FLG girls’ lacrosse travel coach.
Taylor has been a Huntington physical education teacher since September 1996. A graduate of Port Richmond High School in Staten Island, he obtained an undergraduate degree at CUNY-Queens College and a master’s degree at Hofstra University. He has coached girls’ lacrosse at Huntington on the middle school, JV and varsity levels as well as on the club level in Nassau County. One of the top high school football coaches in the state, he has coached teams to county and Long Island football championships.
Scully’s assistant with the Blue Devil JV for many years before being elevated to the head coach position for the coming season, Maimone played lacrosse at Harborfields and at West Virginia University. She is a special education teacher in Harborfields.
Blackburn teaches health at Huntington High School and Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School. She played lacrosse at Walt Whitman before earning an undergraduate degree at SUNY Cortland and a master’s degree at Adelphi University. She has coached girls’ lacrosse in Cold Spring Harbor for many years.
Dieterich teaches business at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and Huntington High School. A graduate of Babylon High School where he played lacrosse, he earned a BS degree at SUNY Geneseo and a master’s degree at Hofstra University.
