Blue Devil Girls Battle in Suffolk Tennis Tournament

The Huntington girls' tennis team battled in the Suffolk Division I Championships.

Huntington High School girls’ tennis players turned in a solid performance at the Suffolk Division I Championships at Smithtown East.

Senior doubles partners Alyson Baker and McKenna Buffa compiled an 8-2 record this fall in regular season play in the No. 1 position for the Blue Devils. Seeded sixth in the Division I tournament, the pair finished in fifth place and are now alternates to the county tournament. They will continue practicing this week since there is a possibly they will play in the Suffolk finals.

As the No. 6 seed, Baker and Buffa had a bye into the Round of 16, where the defeated Northport, 6-1, 6-3. They then dropped a 6-1, 6-3 verdict to Half Hollow Hills East in the quarterfinals before defeating Smithtown East, 6-1 and Commack, 6-3 to finish in fifth place.

In other action:

• Senior singles player Tallulah Pitti cruised in the first round, defeating Northport, 6-2, 6-0 before losing to ninth seeded Harborfields, 6-4, 6-1.
• Eighth grade singles player Mia Kaufman edged Hauppauge in the first round, 6-4, 6-2 before falling to second seeded Kings Park, 6-1, 6-1.
• Junior singles player Kate Balm dropped a tough first round match to Commack, 6-4, 6-0.
• The doubles team of senior Regan Sansiviero and junior Anna Bell Young fell to a great Commack duo, 6-4, 7-5.
