Southdown Primary School’s Stars of the Month were presented with Splash Awards by new Principal Jill Amott-Erwig.
The youngsters were recognized for their overall effort and performance in classrooms and all around the building and grounds.
The Splash Awards take their name from the school’s mascot; a dolphin, which is well known for splashing water on anyone nearby.
September’s Splash Award recipients include:
Universal Pre-Kindergarten: Cameran Kalmar; Kindergarten: Andrew Romano, Anthony Cuiffo, Maryelena Acosta Fuentes, Oscar Gonzalez Robles; First Grade: Sydney Stark, Emma Kuhn, Erik Schubert; Second Grade: Jesenia Gutierrez Sanchez, Miguel Pittman, John “Jack” Golden, Kieren Monge, Kaileen Silva; Third Grade: Suleymi Alfaro, Anthony Aviles, Ramon Velasquez Zavala, Numan Alvarado Interiano
The new school year is off to an exceptional start at Southdown School, primarily because of the outstanding group of students, teachers and support staff members that is working together there. The youngsters are going about their daily business with a smile on their faces and with energy, enthusiasm and determination. It’s both refreshing and fun to see.
Ms. Amott-Erwig is in her first year as Southdown’s principal. She replaced Scott Oshrin, the building’s longtime educational leader who moved to Woodhull Intermediate School to become its principal.
Ms. Amott-Erwig has enjoyed meeting Southdown School community members, including the parents of the students enrolled there. She is embracing Southdown’s long record of service to community, which began in September 1954 and has continued uninterrupted for 67 years.
