Huntington High School’s reinstated varsity bowling team is off the ground. The balls started rolling down the alleys at Larkfield Lanes in East Northport this week.
The Blue Devils have a schedule of 16 meets lined up. Varsity teams from Northport and Harborfields also call Larkfield Lanes their home.
Chris Taylor is Huntington's varsity bowling coach.
Coached by high school physical education teacher Christopher Taylor, the Blue Devil roster includes Anthony Amitrano, Layna Abraham, Kimberly Castro Perdomo, Alex Frawley, Samantha Koepele, Sofia Marchetta, Cameron McNulty, Jack Ruthkowski, Jack Semelsberger and Andrew Sullivan.
The team plans to practice three times a week at this point. Meets will begin in two weeks. A variety of experience levels in the sport are represented on the Blue Devil roster.
Larkfield Lanes staff members have been exceptionally accommodating to the new Huntington team, helping them with shoes and balls and getting situated on the alleys set aside for the Blue Devils.
“It’s such a fun sport and a great after school experience for those on our team,” Taylor said. “Everyone loves the challenge of getting their score higher. We are hopeful that we will be competitive. I am proud to be the Huntington coach.”
The Blue Devils will be playing home and away matches against Deer Park, Northport, Harborfields, Walt Whitman, Smithtown, Commack, Hauppauge, Half Hollow Hills and Brentwood.
Most of the matches will be held at Larkfield Lanes since that is also the home site of Northport and Harborfields.
