It’s a new era for the Huntington High School boys’ basketball program. Tryouts were held this week and varsity and junior varsity teams have been selected.
The new Blue Devil varsity head coach is a familiar face around Huntington. Ken Parham, the J. Taylor Finley Middle School assistant principal has taken over the program. He’s had success everywhere he has ever coached, including at Bay Shore, St. Anthony’s and New York Tech. Now he’s trying to work that same magic in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.
Parham will be assisted by Finley physical education teacher Jordan Ioviero. Daryl Johnson has joined the staff as the junior varsity team’s head coach. He, too, has an impressive basketball resume, with successful stints at several schools and a long relationship with Parham. Kevin Thorbourne is a volunteer assistant coach and will also handle the filming of games. Anthony Cantore is the team’s scorekeeper. Tim Madden coaches the Finley team.
The Blue Devil varsity roster includes eighth grader Jordan Jones; freshmen Nick Plachta and James Vohs; sophomores Tom Girimonti and Dan McNulty; junior Hunter Borenstein and Joshua Stephen; and seniors Finn Cocoman, Dylan Coleman, Kevin Drake, Elias Frazier, Charles Girimonti, Aidan McNulty, Max Rentsch, Henry Vohs and Clayton Ward.
The JV team’s roster features freshmen Justin D’Eloia, Chase Gadaire, Tommy Kline, Colin Lennon, George Mueger and Jordan Thorbourne; and sophomores Dillanger Albert, Justin Alvarez, Harrison Baliber, Jayson Colato, Anthony Earl, John Genova, Christopher Genova, Brayan Mejia, Eli Soric, Gradon Sosnowski and Joey Zink.
The two teams will scrimmage Bayport-Blue Point next Wednesday with the JV taking the court at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity tipping off at 6 p.m.
