Huntington School Board members honored the Blue Devil marching band during Monday night’s public meeting in the Jack Abrams STEM Magnet School auditorium.
Trustees recognized the band’s spectacular season, during which the Blue Devils won a string of competitions across Long Island and Westchester County. Huntington went on to finish third in the New York State Field Band Championships in Syracuse, tallying its highest score in the state finals since 2003.
Band Director Brian Stellato spoke briefly about the recently completed season and gave thanks to a long list of individuals and groups The band’s student leaders also addressed trustees and the audience. Drum majors Nadeera Ali, Emma Hannigan and Isabella Lima and field major Rachel Morina all took turns reflecting on the 2021 campaign.
Band members and parents dotted the crowd for the event, which played out near the beginning of the meeting. A film of the Blue Devils’ performance in the state championship performance was played.
