Flower Hill Primary School students are finding joy in their family, friends, teachers and even their daily routines. A new bulletin board in the building has allowed students to post small notes containing a few succinct words describing what makes the youngsters especially happy.
Moms are running high on the list. Flower Hill boys and girls really do love their mothers as well as their grandmas and grandpas. Many expressed how much joy it brings them to spend time with their dad. Some wrote that they like to snuggle with the family pet. Others find joy in their teacher and in summer vacation.
Some students wrote that they find joy in singing and dancing and even in taking a spelling test. Yep, you read that right. Well, when you can ace that spelling test it must produce a very good feeling, indeed.
“Staff at Flower Hill put this interactive, ‘What Brings You JOY?’ bulletin board up and we can’t get enough of it,” Principal Lucia Laguarda said. “Every teacher got stickers so that they could have a lesson with their classes on what brings them joy. It is such a wonderful lesson because it brings us all together even if we have different ways of feeling joy. We all recognize it! Children and faculty love passing by the interactive board and stopping to see what brings us joy!”
Many students have been standing on their toes to reach up high to place their sticker. It makes for a cute scene.
“The children were so proud to share the joyful parts of their lives,” first grade teacher Alexandra Franco said. “I see colleagues and children alike stopping in the hall to add to the board. It’s quite a happy sight and reading through it is a great opportunity to be still and mindful on days when we are almost always in motion.”
