Finley boys' basketball tryouts will be held next week.

No sooner have fall sports ended at J. Taylor Finley Middle School than the early winter season is ready to begin. Tryouts will commence on Monday (November 8) for boys’ basketball and girls’ volleyball.

The fall season saw more than 200 Finley students participating in the athletic program. Interest in running high in the boys’ basketball team coached by Tim Madden (tmadden@hufsd.edu) and the girls’ volleyball squad coached by Carrie Postel (cpostel@hufsd.edu).

All Finley seventh and eighth graders are eligible and encouraged to participate in the sports program.

Tryouts will be held every afternoon from 3-5 p.m. according to the following schedule:

Boys’ Basketball
• Monday: 8th graders only
• Tuesday: 7th graders only
• Wednesday: 8th graders only
• Friday: 7th graders only

Girls’ Volleyball
• Monday: 8th graders only
• Tuesday: 7th graders only
• Wednesday: 8th graders only
• Friday: 7th graders only

Note: Tryouts will not be held on Thursday, November 11 since schools will be closed in observance of Veterans Day.

Every student needs to get re-qualified by the school nurse for each sport season. The nurse can only clear those who have completed a physical exam within the past 12 months and who present an interval health history form. Questions should be directed to Finley nurse Kay Khokhar at kkhokhar@hufsd.edu.

On the first day of tryouts, students should:
1. Be dressed appropriately and ready to participate in their respective sport.
2. Submit to their coach a blue parent permission form signed by both parent/guardian and student.
3. Arrange for transportation home no later than 5 p.m.
