Kyle Colleluori hurled another complete game masterpiece and Blue Devil hitters banged out a dozen hits to help Huntington inch closer to first place and avenge an early season loss to Connetquot, 10-1.
Colleluori was simply splendid, throwing seven innings and giving up only one earned run. The senior surrendered seven hits, fanned four and walked one batter to pick up his second win of the year and lower his earned run average to 1.70. The victory improved the Blue Devils’ record to 7-3.
Huntington opened up its scoring early when No. 5 hitter Jaden Italiano smacked the first pitch for double to drive in the Blue Devils’ first run. Leading 3-0, Huntington blew the game open with three runs in the fifth inning.
Dylan Schnitzer went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Chris Segreti had two hits and three runs batted in and he scored a run. Zach Gordon went 2-for-2 and walked twice. Italiano had two hits and two RBIs. Colleluori and Alex Gonzalez both had a hit, scored a run and drove in another run. Aidan Bender walked twice and scored two runs. Palmer O’Beirne also had a hit in the game.
The final score was especially sweet for the Blue Devils since Connetquot had downed Huntington in the season opener, 7-1. Wednesday’s game was at Connetquot, which entered the game tied for first place in Suffolk League II with a 7-2 record.
