The J. Taylor Finley Middle School boys’ lacrosse team opened its season with a pair of victories. The squad topped Bay Shore, 9-5 and stormed past Stimson, 12-1.
Finley is coached by Huntington physical education teachers Travis Smith and Eric Triolo. The roster is comprised of 32 players, including 11 seventh graders and 21 eighth graders.
The team is in the midst of an abbreviated six game schedule. Finley has upcoming contests scheduled with Oldfield, Commack, Candlewood and Northport. The season runs through June 4.
The roster includes seventh graders Frank Algieri, Jeremy Gross, Jack Kamenstein, Austin Krywak, Walter Kusterbeck, Braid Martin, Thomas Nicotra, Chase Northrop, Williams Peters, Ronan Sosnowski and Luca Triolo; and eighth graders Brennan Ackerman, Joseph Boeckmann, Jakeem Casey, Thomas Davis, Gavin Deegan, William Fallon, Stephen Connor Fox, Chase Gadaire, Thomas Kline, James Larson, Colin Lennon, Brian Lynch, Keegan Malone, Dominic Mattio, Timothy McDonald, Ethan Naima, Jayden Schneider, Zachary Schnitzer, Thomas Smith, James Vohs and Parker Wands.
The team practices every day on the grass athletic fields on the Finley campus. The sessions consist of a mix of stretching and exercises, instruction, drills and intrasquad scrimmaging.
“We have a very nice mix of players who are all complementing each other on the field,” Smith said. “The team came together quickly and we have played well in the first two games. I expect us to keep improving and continue to play well over the remainder of our schedule.”
