The Huntington High School boys’ varsity and junior varsity tennis teams are ready for action. The varsity has a 10 meet schedule while the JV squad will square off in eight meets against Suffolk schools.
The varsity team will once again be coached by Jamie Fishlow, who has led the program for decades. Fishlow is optimistic the Blue Devils will be highly competitive in both singles and doubles.
The varsity roster includes eighth graders Nicholas Plachta and Ryan Scanlon; sophomore Timothy Kusterbeck; juniors Alex Frawley, Sean Hassett, Matthew Levinson, Matthew Minicozzi and Will Weber; and seniors Josh Bailin, Aaron Chin, Aiden Lefebvre and Rich Rongo.
“Tennis is going great,” Weber said. “We have been able to practice together as varsity and junior varsity without any issues concerning COVID-19. We lost some key players from last year’s team, but the spots were filled in with a lot of new freshmen and sophomores and even some eighth graders from Finley. I believe we have a solid team this year and believe we are all ready for our matches that are coming up.”
The Blue Devil varsity has home and away matches scheduled with Walt Whitman, Smithtown East, Hauppauge, Smithtown West and Kings Park.
The Huntington JV is once again coached by Robert Gilmor III. The JV roster includes eighth grader Ronnie Carrillo; freshmen Jake Amend, Lars Galvin, Tyler Godin, Benjamin Edgar-McNerney and Andrew Sullivan; and sophomores Evan Spagnoletti and Logan Toth.
The Blue Devil junior varsity will play home and away matches against Walt Whitman, Smithtown East, Smithtown West and Kings Park. The season runs through June 2.
