Southdown Primary School’s Stars of the Month Award recipients for April are a glittering group of youngsters. The students were honored during a recent virtual Splash Assembly that was broadcast into classrooms and available to those engaged in remote learning at home.
Principal Scott Oshrin hosts a monthly Splash Assembly during which student and staff awards are presented. Due to COVID-19 related restrictions, this year’s assemblies have been held virtually. The format allows students both in school and at home to view the proceedings simultaneously.
The Splash Assembly derives its name from Southdown’s mascot; a dolphin, which is known for using its huge fin to splash water on anyone who happens to be nearby. The Stars of the Month Award is coveted and received with pride by students who are recognized for their all-around effort in and out of the classroom.
April’s award recipients include:
Universal Pre-Kindergarten: Nicholas Pagan; Kindergarten: Caleb Lopez Coreas, John Elle, Alejandra Cerrato Orellana, Madeleine Kelley; First Grade: Walter Lopez Tzoy, Leslie Garcia Jimenez, Dayana Leiva-Jandres, Olivia Lanzilotta, Evelyn Sanchez Cartagena; Second Grade: Cambria Baratti, Don‘te Parker, Hendrik Peters, Nicolas Akerman; Third Grade: Skylar Reign Moore, Sachelyn Portillo Anariba, Felix Flores Lopez
Music teacher Jacqueline Duryea was honored as April’s staff award winner. “We appreciate you and all that you do for us,” said Mr. Oshrin about the faculty member.
Teacher Pamela Schwarting discussed some important points related to outdoor recess for students to consider in order to have fun, stay safe and be happy. She encouraged everyone to “choose kind” when they are on the playground.
