National Honor Society Steps Up Its Game

Huntington's National Honor Society chapter has created a read-along website for elementary students

March 4 , 2021

Huntington High School’s National Honor Society chapter just stepped up its game to meet educational challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The organization has created a nifty read-along page that is just perfect for the district’s elementary grade level students. To access the page visit https://sites.google.com/hufsd.edu/hhs-nhs-read-aloud/home.

“Please enjoy the webpage we put together,” states an introduction to the initiative on the new webpage. “The students of Huntington High School’s National Honor Society have created a collection of their favorite story books. We hope our love for reading and learning brings you back each month for new stories and smiles!”

Huntington’s Nathan Hale chapter of the National Honor Society is led by Jack Krisch (president), Gemma Pellegrini (vice president), Tess Stanley (secretary) and Alex Gonzalez (treasurer). Teachers Patricia Avelli and Tara Fisher serve as the organization’s faculty advisors.

“It was our mission to provide readings of children’s books to elementary school students,” the group said in a press release. “These readings are some of our favorite children’s books. It is a fun opportunity for our members to connect with you in these distant times.”

Scroll to the bottom of the read-along website and you will find a form that allows interested parties to submit the names of favorite books they would like to see incorporated into the new initiative.

“Our members will be creating new recordings each month,” according to the group. “We hope you find this to be a great resource and fun experience for the younger students in our district.”
