Jefferson Primary School always does everything big. Standing proudly on Oakwood Road since September 1962, the building houses 300 energetic youngsters spread across kindergarten through third grade and a full complement of teachers and paraprofessionals.
Jefferson’s 100th Day of School celebration was typically big. “As part of this wonderful celebration we asked students and their families to participate in our school-wide collection drive for ‘100 food items,’” Principal Valerie Capitulo-Saide said. “Over the course of the week we asked each grade level to collect specific items to donate to the Helping Hand Rescue Mission.”
The Jefferson School family immediately stepped up to the plate, donating 220 items for the food drive on the first day alone. With the pandemic stripping food pantry shelves nearly bare, the goods are sure to be put to good use.
Teachers used the 100th day celebration to deliver some important educational lessons that were combined with lots of fun. The youngsters thoroughly enjoyed the day.
Students dressed up like a 100-year old person to make it an especially memorable experience. The photos of the day are simply priceless and the clothing, hairstyles and props, including walkers and canes were imaginative.
Jefferson will never be outdone by any other school. Students, teachers and parents continue to stand tall on Oakwood Road.
