The J. Taylor Finley Middle School girls’ track and field team showcased some great young athletes during a series of meets against Elwood, East Northport and West Islip-Udall.
Coached by Tim Madden and Brian Reynolds, Finley featured a nicely balanced team that was able to compete in both running and field events.
“This team was a group that worked hard to learn and execute all the intricacies of track and field despite the abbreviated season due to COVID-19,” Madden said. “It was a pleasure to coach this group and I wish them success as they continue to grow in the Huntington track and field program.”
Finley top performers proved to be Felicity George, Kiley Barch, Dana Saramago, Aaziyah McCoy, Louisa Skrobela and Emma Boyle.
“Felicity has good speed,” Madden said. “She did a great job running the 55m dash. Kiley is a very good long distance runner. Dana is a great overall athlete. Aaziyah will be an excellent hurdler. Louisa is a hard worker and an asset to our team. Emma competes hard in all of her events.”
The roster also included seventh graders Kennedy Banner, Mildred Hernandez Veliz, Erika Hernandez Veliz, Mia Kaufman, Kiera McGuire and Emma Polinsky; and eighth graders Vincenza Garofalo, Amalia Heinz and Molly Hodgkinson.
The coaches are hopeful that as the COVID-19 pandemic recedes, more Finley students will participate in the program next spring.
