Chloe Buffone has enjoyed a remarkable run through Huntington High School where she has been a standout in every possible way. The senior has been a high achiever across the board and has won admirers among her classmates and the faculty. The teenager is headed to the Ivy League and Cornell University, where she is excited to begin her studies.
“I chose Cornell for many reasons, but what really stood out to me was the variety of majors and areas of study the school provides,” Ms. Buffone said. “I am undecided on what I want to major in, but have always thought about becoming a veterinarian or biologist and Cornell is well known for their animal and veterinary sciences.”

Ms. Buffone doesn’t like calling attention to herself. She is reserved and respectful and always kind and considerate. The teenager has challenged herself over the past four years, taking a full slate of Advanced Placement classes and fully exploring Huntington High School’s diverse course offerings.
“I feel prepared for the level of intensity of my college classes, but college is such a different experience than high school,” Ms. Buffone said. “Huntington has definitely helped me get to where I am now and I know I will be able to adapt to college easily because of this.”
The senior plans to take advantage of Cornell’s remarkable co-curricular and extracurricular offerings. Few colleges can match its extensive lineup of clubs and programs and its general surroundings.
“I am hoping to join the Cornell University chorus, which is a treble choir that has been around for over 100 years, as well as the Cornell Classics Society,” Ms. Buffone said. “Cornell has over 900 clubs to choose from, so I’m excited to find what else interests me. There are also sheep farms, botanical gardens and gorges all around Cornell and I can’t wait to spend my time exploring the campus and Ithaca.”
The teenager has mastered all of her high school classes. She believes that every Huntington student will be able to find courses that are important to them and consistent with their interests.
“For me personally, taking AP Biology, AP Latin and Animal Behavior have helped me find my interests,” Ms. Buffone said. “But everyone has their own interests, so I think the best advice I could give is to take what classes interest you rather than what you think you should take.”
Ms. Buffone has made many worthwhile connections with faculty members over the years. She gets along well with everyone and is well-liked.
“Mrs. [Kristin] Fortunato and Ms. [Camille] Tedeschi have always been my mentors,” Ms. Buffone said. “Mrs. Fortunato has been my Latin teacher since I first started taking the class in seventh grade and I went on a trip to Italy with her and the Latin class in ninth grade. I also have traveled to Peru and Belize with Ms. Tedeschi, and she was my World History teacher for two years. They have taught me so much both inside and out of the classroom and have always been such incredible and dedicated teachers.”
A talented vocalist, Ms. Buffone was named an All-State Soprano 1 as both a junior and senior and was also selected as All-Eastern this year. They are notable accomplishments that put her among an elite group of performers.
Huntington High School teachers will miss Ms. Buffone as she heads off to college. She’s added something unique to every class.
“As I prepare to graduate, I think everyone should know how diverse Huntington is, not just as a community, but in its opportunities,” Ms. Buffone said. “There are so many things you can get involved in. I have friends in orchestra, baseball, field hockey and fashion. There’s no one particular thing I love most about Huntington. It’s an overall experience that’s been built over my years spent here.”
