Southdown Stars Make Principal & Teachers Proud

Southdown Primary School on Browns Road in Huntington opened in September 1954.

June 3 , 2021

As Southdown Primary School races toward the finish line of the 2020/21 school year, Principal Scott Oshrin took some time out to celebrate a group of outstanding boys and girls who have been working very hard this spring.

Mr. Oshrin along with Southdown’s faculty and support staff members are all proud of the honorees, who shined through the month of May. Ordinarily students and staff would gather in the school gym for a monthly Splash assembly, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that isn’t possible this year. So a virtual assembly was available for viewing in every classroom and to students at home who are engaged in remote instruction.

The Splash Assembly draws its name from Southdown’s mascot; a dolphin, which is widely known for using its fin to splash water onto those nearby. The Stars of the Month Award is valued by all and received with pride by students who are recognized for their all-around effort in and out of the classroom.

May’s honorees include:

Universal pre-kindergarten: Daniela Chavez Reyes; Kindergarten: Hannah Halder, Madison Gallienne, Karla Sorto Cabrera, Khailey Graham; First grade: Marlon Granados, Alexis Nasifoglu, Alexander Aversano, Kimberly Cordova Benitez, Kieren Monge; Second grade: Radshayan Ansuman, Matthew Figueroa, Nathaniel Kelly, Denisse Vidal-Villalba; Third grade: Anthony Gonzalez Chavez, Jeferson Lopez Sanchez, Lucas Coby

Mr. Oshrin also cited clerical staff members Lindsay Fitzpatrick, Karen Hernandez and Wanda Gonzalez for their efforts. “They do a lot of work behind the scenes to make Southdown run smoothly,” the principal said.
