John Walsh can’t wait for the season to start. The Huntington High School varsity girls’ soccer team’s longtime head coach believes the Blue Devils will field a very strong squad this fall.

Walsh will once again be assisted by Vincent Tannazzo. The duo has been together for many years, complementing each other’s strengths. With 14 players returning from last spring’s team, including nine starters, the Blue Devils look to be one of the top teams in the league, if not the county.

Huntington lost Bella Algieri, Alexa Amorison, Johanna Campos-Moreira, Gigi DeVoe, Jordan Forte, Julia Gorecki, Kemberlin Hernandez-Veliz, Timmeree Koepele, Ainsley Lumpe, Charlotte Maggio and Julia Steinberg to graduation.

Returning to the field is All-County Teddi Carnesi, All-Conference Katie Browne and Emily Plachta and All-League Edelyn Garcia. The returnees also include Analisse Batista, Hope Bilkey, Hanna Carlson, Gianna Forte, Ashley Genao, Evelyn Henriquez, Adrianna LoScalzo, Caroline O’Rourke, April Swanson and Eliza Walther.

Huntington compiled a 6-3-1 record last spring and advanced to the playoffs. “The team worked hard every day,” Walsh said. “Sometimes we were overmatched, but nevertheless these girls found a way to compete and win.”

The Blue Devil JV squad will again by coached by high school physical education teacher Maria Canino. Everyone is welcome to try-out for the team.

The fall season kicks off with the first day of tryouts on Monday, August 23 at 8 a.m. on Huntington High School’s grass soccer team. Walsh said newcomers are welcome to try-out for both the varsity and junior varsity teams.
