Finley Football Gets Ready to Take the Field

In six short weeks the J. Taylor Finley Middle School football team will take the field for the fall 2021 season. All seventh and eighth graders are eligible to join the squad, which will play a six game schedule against area opponents.

The team is led by head coach Jordan Ioviero. It practices daily after school on the Finley football field. The first practice is set for the first day of school; Thursday, September 9 at 3 p.m.

Finley compiled a 5-1 record this past season. Veteran players eligible to return this fall as eighth graders include Frank Algieri, Brian Banegas Cabrera, Jermine Campbell, Sean Egan, Jacob Guzik, William Kim, Austin Krywak, Walter Kusterbeck, Justin Manzanares Quintanilla, Christian Mitchell, Nicholas Normoyle, Chase Northrop, William Peters, Vincent Pupillo, Junior Quintanilla Gonzalez, Jose Rodriquez Alvarez, Kashiem Sexton, Fergie Sierra Ortega and Ronan Sosnowski.

Finley’s six game schedule features the following games:
Sept. 28: Smithtown-Accompsett at Finley at 4 p.m.
Oct. 7: Finley at Candlewood at 4 p.m.
Oct. 13: Stimson at Finley at 4 p.m.
Oct. 19: Finley at Northport at 4 p.m.
Oct. 28: East Northport at Finley at 4:30 p.m.
Nov. 3: Finley at Smithtown-Nesaquake at 4 p.m.

“We have a great group of players returning and we hope to add dozens of new seventh and eighth graders to our roster,” Coach Ioviero said. “We welcome everyone. It’s going to be a great year and a fun time for everyone.”

The school doctor will be at Finley on Wednesday, September 1 at 8 a.m. to give physical exams for student-athletes who want one. Athletes can submit paperwork (private physician physical form and interval health history) to the nurse on Monday and Tuesday, August 30-31 between 9a.m. – 3 p.m. and requalify for fall sports. Athletes can also sign up for their respective team and get cleared by the nurse on Thursday and Friday, September 9-10 during their respective lunch period.

Every student needs to get re-qualified by the school nurse for each sport season. The nurse can only clear a student if they have the following forms on file:
