The Huntington Lions Club is such a firm believer in Lily O’Heir’s potential for success that the organization has presented the Huntington High School Class of 2021 member with a $5,000 scholarship award to help defray college related expenses.
A delightful young woman who has impressed everyone in the school community, Ms. O’Heir will be attending City University of New York – Hunter College to study either social work or psychology.
A member of Huntington’s National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society, English Honor Society and Italian Honor Society chapters, Ms. O’Heir was named a Distinguished Senior after compiling an academic average of 90 or better during the first seven semesters of high school.
Ms. O’Heir said her success comes from “setting goals and taking action to achieve them. A key player on the Blue Devil varsity tennis team for many years, the teenager said she “made some amazing friends while learning how to work hard” and came to realize that “success does not have to happen immediately.”
The new Huntington alum will long be remembered for her stirring performance at the K-Factor talent show with Los Tres Amigos. A finalist in the Long Island flute competition, she was also chosen to participate in the Girls Leadership Worldwide program.
The mission of Lions Clubs International is “to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.”
