A group of 13 exceptional Huntington High School athletes was presented with Section XI Gold Key awards at the 53rd Blue Devil Senior Athletic Awards Ceremony in Louis D. Giani Gymnasium.
The Gold Key is the highest honor a Suffolk athlete can receive for sports participation, according to Huntington Director of Athletics Georgia D. McCarthy. This year’s Blue Devil recipients include Alexa Amorison, Mekai Butts, Jordan Forte, Aidan Heller, Isaiah James, Charlotte Maggio, Lisa Martin, Carlos Martinez, Andrew McKenzie, Valerie Rogel, Chad Rowe, Ella Siepel and Nasir Youngblood.
Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky formally presented the awards to the recipients. The Gold Key is a county award emphasizing participation in interscholastic athletics while recognizing proficiency in performance. The award is presented in every Suffolk high school to students who have lettered in eight seasons on varsity or junior varsity teams between their sophomore and senior years
“This year’s Gold Key recipients have proven themselves in the classroom and the athletic realm, as well as with their determination and resilience during a challenging time,” Mr. Polansky said. “Further, they have served as great teammates, friends and ambassadors to the Huntington school community. Each has left his/her legacy in numerous regards. Terrific things surely lie ahead for them!”
The group posed for a group photo to commemorate the occasion and the achievement of the outstanding seniors.
