Grace Stolfa has emerged as one of Huntington High School’s most creative juniors. The teenager has been excelling in photography, mastering the different settings on her camera along with editing software and all the different aspects of what goes into a quality photo shoot.
“I love being able to express myself through taking photos of others and being able to capture a moment in time,” Ms. Stolfa said.
For a recent photography class assignment, Ms. Stolfa worked in the woods in her backyard with classmate Adrianna LoScalzo, who served as the model for the photo shoot.
Ms. Stolfa had to make it appear as if Ms. LoScalzo was levitating. It was no easy assignment, but the end result has earned very positive reviews from everyone, including high school photography teacher Pamela Piffard-Williams. An earlier shoot for a “snow day” assignment produced equally splendid images.
While the teenager is clearly an exceptional young photographer, she said she is especially interested in her social studies and English courses this year with teachers Camille Tedeschi and Michael Schwendemann. “I have been close with both teachers,” Ms. Stolfa said.
The junior plans to play on the Blue Devil volleyball team and be active in the high school’s National Honor Society chapter. Ms. Stolfa clearly likes to keep busy.
“My closest friends are Adrianna LoScalzo, Caroline Gorecki, Kianna Criscuola, Caroline O’Rourke, Johnny Chirico, Sofia Marchetta and Sophia Toscano,” Ms. Stolfa said.
Ms. Tedeschi comes the closest to being a mentor for Ms. Stolfa. “She has been my social studies teacher in each of the past two years,” the teenager said. “She really sticks out to me because she has made me an overall more aware student and a better writer.”
Ms. Stolfa is interested in attending the United States Coast Guard Academy and studying government. “My interests would definitely relate to politics and being a political journalist,” she said.
The teenager’s advice to incoming high school freshmen? “Definitely join a sports team,” Ms. Stolfa said. “It’s a great opportunity to make new friends.”
As the school year rolls along, Ms. Stolfa is making the best of each day, even with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic restricting the typical high school experience every student would normally be enjoying.
“My experience at Huntington High school has been great so far,” Ms. Stolfa said. “I’ve enjoyed every class I’ve been in and I’m happy I’ve made all of the new friends that I’ve made. I can’t wait for senior year.”
