As the school year races onward, Washington Primary School celebrated its most recent award recipients.
Principal Michelle Richards presented Washington Ways Awards to a large group of students who were cited for their exceptional efforts throughout January. The honorees were announced over the building’s public address system. One by one they walked down to the main lobby and were given a handsome certificate before posing for an individual photograph.
January’s honorees include Grayson Fiore, Iker Ortigoza-Cardozo, Fiona Hennings, Delanie Foote, Carlos Ortez Flores, Charlotte LaMendola, Allison Chavez-Campos, Matilde Maradiaga Ramos, Jeffrey Velasquez, Glendi Miranda Raymundo, Dashawn Grant, Dylan Jurow, Annie Mendoza, Cayden Mollica, Camila Luna Mancia, Kennya Alvarado, Darwin Perez Pineda and Preston Niedziela.
The entire classes of teachers Emily Meyers, Peri Alfano and Vivian Joseph were also recognized.
“Here at Washington Primary School, we are so proud of our January 2021 Washington Winners,” Dr. Richards said. “These students live the Washington Way every day! We are all winners at Washington Primary School. We are safe, respectful and responsible. We promise to work hard and never give up. We dream big and reach for the stars. We know we can make a difference. And, every day we promise to try our very best at all we strive and do.”
Here’s how the Washington Ways program works:
White tickets are awarded weekly for good behaviors and actions in the classroom. White ticket winners are honored with special recognition in their classroom at the end of each week and their names are announced every Monday morning.
Red tickets are presented to individuals for notable good behavior outside of classrooms, including in hallways, buses, the playground, etc. At the end of the month, the student in each class with the greatest number of red tickets is recognized with a special certificate.
Entire classes can earn blue tickets for positive group behavior out-of-the-classroom. Blue tickets are also awarded to the two classes within the building with the most tickets overall.
