The Huntington girls’ basketball team tips-off for its opening game this week. Blue Devil coaches finalized the roster following several days of tryout practices.
Huntington is led by head coach Michael Kaplan, assistant coach Marissa Bergmann and junior varsity coach John Romano.
The squad includes sophomore Gianna Forte; juniors Katie Browne, Makaylah Frazier, Emily Plachta, Shaneek Shand, Teddi Carnesi, Regan Sansiviero and Junie Nosile and seniors Jordan Forte, Charlotte Maggio, Alexa Amorison, Lisa Martin and Kemberlin Hernandez. Sophomore Kaci McDonald and senior Ainsley Lumpe are the team’s managers.
Huntington is coming off a 2019/20 campaign that saw the Blue Devils finish 12-9 overall and 7-5 in league play. The team won a tournament at Islip and captured second place at a second tournament in Center Moriches.
Kaplan enters his 11th season as head coach with a 133-70 record for a .655 winning percentage at Huntington. The Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs in nine of the past 10 years.
Huntington opens on Wednesday at home against Smithtown East. No spectators are allowed at any game due to COVID-19 restrictions. Home games will be live-streamed on the Blue Devil Sports YouTube channel.
Home games are set with Smithtown East, Newfield, Islip (non-league) and Smithtown West. Away contests are scheduled with Half Hollow Hills East, Copiague and North Babylon.
The Blue Devil coaches believe they have a talented squad. Players are united in their quest to play solid basketball over the seven game regular season schedule and qualify for an abbreviated playoff bracket.
