After several days of tryout practices the Huntington High School varsity boys’ basketball team has been selected and is ready for action. Games begin this week.
The 2021 squad includes 10 underclassmen who are all juniors and three seniors. The Blue Devils are led by head coach Jordan Ioviero and assistant coach Ken Parham. Patrick Reilly is Huntington’s junior varsity coach.
The Blue Devil roster includes juniors Dylan Coleman, Finn Cocoman, John Chirico, Kevin Drake, Elias Frazier, Charles Girimonti, Amari Lowe, Aidan McNulty, Max Rentsch and Henry Vohs and seniors Adrian Brooks, Zach Gordon and Chad Rowe.
Huntington opens on Wednesday at Smithtown East at 4 p.m. Fans are not permitted to attend games due to COVID-19 restrictions. League games will follow at home against Half Hollow Hills East, Copiague and North Babylon.
Besides the season opener at Smithtown East, there will be road league games at Newfield and Smithtown West. A non-league game is also scheduled at Babylon.
“The team’s energy level is better than it has been in past years,” Coleman said. “Everyone works hard every day.”
Coach Parham joins the Huntington varsity staff with 29 years of experience at Bay Shore, St. Anthony’s and New York Institute of Technology. He was found success at each stop, developing excellent programs. With New York Tech’s program on hiatus due to COVID-19, he was available to lend a hand to the Blue Devils. During the school day is works as the assistant principal at J. Taylor Finley Middle School.
Ioviero is in his second year at Huntington. He teaches physical education at Finley. Reilly played for Huntington High School and returned several years ago to serve as the JV coach. He is finishing a master’s degree in physical education at Adelphi University.
“Everyone is focused and working hard to have a great season,” Rentsch said. “Things are looking good.”
