Kathryn Montefusco has made multiple trips to the New York State Swimming & Diving Championships and while the Huntington High School pool star has inched closer to her goal, the lure of being a state champion continues to motivate the junior.
The teenager finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the 200 freestyle at this year’s state finals. Ms. Montesfusco is an incredible competitor who displays exceptional commitment to pursuing her goals. She trains at the Nassau Aquatic Center at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow when she isn’t leading the Blue Devil team.
Most people are still sleeping when Ms. Montefusco jumps into the pool during early morning hours. She shows no signs of letting up or wavering in her goals.
All-League, All-County and All-State in multiple events, Ms. Montefusco has been an exceptional representative of her high school and the Blue Devil athletic program.
“Kathryn continues to be an amazing athlete and a driving force with incredible speed,” said Christopher Helmke, Huntington’s veteran swimming coach. “She is a specialist in all strokes and qualified for the states in six individual events this season. Kathryn continues to help propel our team forward and adds to our success at every turn.”
The teenager is a splendid student, too. She regularly captures a spot on Huntington High School’s High Honor Roll and she was recently named a New York State Scholar Athlete.
“This is Kathryn’s fourth year of qualifying for the states and it was a great personal achievement to qualify in six events,” Coach Helmke said. “Kathryn is a true asset to our team.”
