Kevin Drake poured in 18 points and Max Rentsch added 16 points and 14 rebounds to pace the Huntington boys’ basketball team to a Suffolk League III win over visiting Smithtown East, 67-49.

The Blue Devils came out strong, hitting baskets and hustling up and down the court. Huntington led 26-8 after eight minutes and 37-24 at halftime.

Once Drake found his range he was hard to stop. The senior connected on four shots from beyond the three-point arc and added two assists and four rebounds and a pair of blocks. He turned the ball over only once.

Hunter Borenstein also enjoyed the best night of the year, dropping 15 points and pulling down 11 rebounds along with three assists and a block. Dylan Coleman had a season high 12 points nine assists, three rebounds and four steals.

Charlie Girimonti, Jordan Jones and Nich Plachta scored two points each. Girimonti added a pair of rebounds.

Huntington had eight three-point baskets in the game. The win improved the Blue Devils’ record to 3-2 after a pair of tough losses to Smithtown West and North Babylon. The latter was especially difficult since Huntington led by 11 points at halftime last Friday.

Rentsch was once again magnificent, including sinking three-of-four free throws. He added three assists and a block. Elias Frazier tallied two rebounds, two assists and four blocks.

Huntington kept the pressure up in the second half, outscoring Smithtown East, 30-25 over the final 16 minutes.

The Blue Devils play at powerful Half Hollow Hills East on Saturday at 2 p.m. Huntington hosts West Islip on Monday at 6:45 p.m.
