The J. Taylor Finley Middle School football team is looking ahead to next fall. The program saw a burst of interest this year with 49 seventh and eighth graders suiting up.
Coached by Jordan Ioviero, Greg Dieterich and Kevin Thorbourne, Finley was captained by eighth graders Frank Algieri (QB/LB), Walter Kusterbeck (WR/DB), Jean Riboul (WR/RB/OLB), Chase Northrop (TE/OLB) and Vincent Pupillo (OL/DL).
The captains were Finley’s top players and kept the team competitive in all six games that were played.
“We believe Frank Algieri has the potential to be a very good high school quarterback,” Ioviero said. “He is a special player.”
The roster also included seventh graders Erick Anariba Avila, Victor Aviles, Blake Bender, Richardo Berry, Edgar Castro Anariba, Jude Creegan, Cristian Cruz Luna, Marcello Dhir, Justin Feliciano, Gannon Johnson, Braedan Kline, Brady LaCosta, Jack Larson, Zachary Matthews, Zayvion McCoy, Brendan McNulty, Dylan Michalson, Shates Miller and Jeremiah Miller.
Finley football also featured eighth graders Marciano Aloe, Anderson Avalos Coreas, Brian Banegas Cabrera, Brandon Canas, Sean Egan, Carlos Espinal Garcia, Shelby Gillenwater, Jacob Guzik, Jordan Jones, Jack Kamenstein, Austin Krywak, Ethan Lawless, Alvin Luna-Mancia, Justin Manzanares Quintani, Nicholas Normoyle, David Parada Aguilar, William Peters, Aaron Pickens, Michael Ramos-Cubas, Jose Rodriquez Alvarez, Jayden Rubio-Perez, Ronan Sosnowski, Henry Stein, Philander White and Wilver Lopez Reyes.
“After teaching the fundamentals, our team started to understand the game better and under the lights at Smithtown West, we put together our best performance of the year, defeating Nesaquake in the final game, 36-13,” Ioviero said.
