Huntington High School football players Liam McDonald , Jack O’Brien and Josiah Melendez capped off their Blue Devil football careers by playing in the Suffolk All-Star Game.
The three seniors all saw time on the field and helped lead the North over the South, 28-16. A crowd of hundreds attended the game, which was played under the lights at Sachem North.
McDonald played a great game with six tackles, a sack and a forced fumble. Melendez ran the ball several times, gobbling up yardage. O’Brien went two for two on extra points as a placekicker.
Family and friends watched the three Blue Devil gridiron stars plays their hearts out. Huntington alum Dr. James Paci joined the trio on the field for a photo and varsity assistant coach Kevin Graham was also on hand to cheer the teenagers on.
McDonald and Robbie Smith, another talented Blue Devil senior were honored at the Suffolk County Football Coaches Association annual dinner at the Hyatt Regency in Hauppauge on Monday night. The dynamic duo picked up All-County awards after helping to lead Huntington to the Section XI playoffs.
“Liam and Robbie are both warriors and true Blue Devils,” Huntington head coach Steven Muller said. “They are incredible leaders and players who combined skill, determination to excel and dedication to their team and teammates. They helped make us winners this season.”
